Genesis was founded in 2015 as a division of Hyundai in the luxury market. It was the perfect time. This is why we have Genesis. If you recognize the advancement of Hyundai in the past decade or so, but can afford a few steps higher in terms of luxury and performance, this is it.
In this video I check out the Genesis G70. Its got the bigger of two engines available and it is in their sport-oriented trim. Now, when you consider the competitors of the G70 then Genesis really has to come up with something special in order to even get noticed.

Genesis says the design of the G70 ‘embodies Athletic Elegance’ and while I usually cringe at boasting marketing terms, I have to say they hit the spot here.

The G70 is a mixture of sporty and elegant features, all put together into a stylish and modern look that obviously battles with its main competitors from Germany. However, the G70 design also obviously draws on its sibling, the Kia Stinger.

At the moment there are two powering options for the G70: a 2 L turbo and this 3.3 L twin-turbo.

The G70 3.3 V6 has three trims, two the same as the ones on the 2.0 and the third called Ultimate Sport, which combines the main features of the two lower trims.

The 2.0 produces 179 kW and 353 Nm of torque and it is actually punchy enough for most people. However, if you want more fun behind the wheel, the twin-turbo V6 is the way to go. It produces 272 kW and 510 Nm the later from just 1300 rpm all the way to 4500.

With the 8-speed automatic gearbox with manual override option, there are few reasons to ever be in revs that deliver anything but total torque. The 3.3 V6 is familiar unit from the lovely Kia Stinger and it pushes the G70 to 100 in 4.7 seconds.

It’s not just the power that makes the V6 more of a performance option. The car with this engine has Brembo front brakes, limited-slip differential, launch control, and even special Michelin tyres designed for more grip. Apparently, these are the reason why the G70 is a bit quicker to 100 than the Stinger with the same engine.

Inside the Genesis G70, the central console is thick and reassuring, again similar to the one from the Stinger, the controls are easy to use and very close to the steering wheel, the sports seats are just amazing, both comfortable and supportive.

There is a tone of safety features as expected, the G70 is a luxury car after all. Just some of them are Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Driver Attention Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian detection and lane-change oncoming function, High Beam Assist, Lane Keeping Assist with line/road-edge functions, a Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning system, and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Forward/Reverse Parking Distance Warning, a Rear View Monitor with parking guidance, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and more.

When it comes to costs, the entry-level 2.0 G70 starts from 59,300, the 2.0 Sport from 63,300, the 2.0 Ultimate from 69,300. The 3.3 Sport starts from 72,450, the 3.3 Ultimate from 79,950, and the very top 3.3 Ultimate Sport from 79,950.

A BMW 330i starts from about $68k, it actually comes with a 2 L engine. A nice one, but nowhere near the 3.3 in the G70.

Even without the price difference, the latest 3.3L Genesis G70 is a good offering.
