A Review of Stardew Valley: Perfect 2020 Escapism

Welp. This is a video alright.
Specifically, this amateur-hour little number is a review of the fun little indie video game know as Stardew Valley.

It is also a testament to the fact that I can, in fact, overcome a mountain of problems.

To make a long story short, this little side project (my first video on YouTube despite having the channel for years) took way, WAY longer than I originally thought it would. I started it way back in the very beginning of May, and it's only going up on the last day of June. That's nearly two full months, for those of you who need help with the math.

Nothing came easy while making this video. For a start, my measly eight gigs of RAM means that my computer stuttered like it was the lead character in The King's Speech. This made timing things a hassle and editing a chore. I lost footage and progress on two completely separate occasions. My perfectionism kicked in frequently, getting into fistfights with my overall laziness and my inexperience with editing. And I was constantly struggling with my inability to get some freaking sleep on a regular basis.

Oh, and 2020 sucks. The virus, the riots, the collapsing economy, none of those helped in the slightest. In fact, they just added to the pile of s**t that weighed me down.

But I persevered. I adapted. I learned and learned and learned some more (seriously, I learned a lot creating this thing). I made the video, thumbnail and all. I recorded the audio from my script and the footage from the game, I got the images from the internet and the music from the game's soundtrack, I put it all together and now it's out and standing tall for all the world to see. Or rather, for my friends and family to see, and no-one else.

Because, c'mon, let's be real. Much as I'd like otherwise, the idea that I'd even get the necessary subscribers to monetize is ludicrous, much less the needed amount of views to make a living off this platform.

But in the end, that doesn't matter. I made this. No matter what happens to me, no matter what I wind up doing, this little ditty will be there, forever. A personal testament to, not just my love of this game, but my ability to create and to overcome. And frankly, I think that's pretty cool.

Next video (and there WILL be a next one) will probably be a review of Psychonauts. Hope to see you there.
