Shaheed Ferouz, a young Pharmaceutical Chemist who studied at Bradford University in London returned to Guyana in the late 1960s to work at a family business – Twins Pharmacy. Ripe with ambition at the time, Ferouz was not satisfied with the mundane responsibilities of a Pharmacist and began experimenting to produce several products, from household cleaners, to food additives, medicine and personal care items. By 1971, he started his own business – Twins Manufacturing Chemists – which is now a third generation family business, a multimillion dollar enterprise with a presence across the globe and more importantly, a household name in Guyana. His daughter-in-law, Saudia Ferouz, during an exclusive interview with the News Room, tells the story of a 50-year journey and how the company responded to the needs of Guyanese during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
